MY CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT AND WHY

No, it isn't the seeming love birds nor the seeming back stabbers. I swear Bill looks like he's plotting against Obamamama. . (Bill also looks fat, old and unkempt to me. But what do I know? I'm only a voter.) But I do get to make a choice. Herewith my choices and my reasoning. Oh, don't forget to click on the header.
  1. Obamamama wants us to give up our right to legally carry concealed weapons. Yep. He said so. Like Buck and FHB and Lin, I have no intention of turning in my permit. You see, we have read the Constitution and its Amendments, The Bill of Rights and people like Paine, Washington, Adams, Franklin and so on. And we've come to accept them as wise, wise people. The big O is from Chicago. Many years ago when I really, really loved everything about Chicago, even I wondered if I shouldn't have been carrying then.
  2. I know about big government expanding its sayso just to protect those who have fallen into cushy, good paying government jobs. The principle behind this is to make one's bureau so big, so complicated, with so many employees, that the average citizen gives up trying to get to you after the frustration mounts over his/her head and cascades down like rain from a hurricane. Or CYAWP. I gave up with Internal Revenue years ago. There is no chance that government bureau in charge of concealed weapons won't expand. Like Topsy.
  3. Clicking on the header takes one to Jack Cashill's admittedly muckraking page. But it talks about big O and retired terrorist (did I write that? Retired?) Bill Ayers. There seems to be a lot of truth bared in his reviews of Obamamama. There's a page of his essays(?) available at http://www.cashill.com/articles_all/recent.htm .
  4. I don't know about y'all (ooops linguistic slip) but I am tired of the people I elect to the Presidency or Congressional offices lying through their teeth to me. Yes, oral sex is indeed sex. Yes, weapons of mass destruction mean nuclear (not nucular) to me. Yes, breaking and entering is a violation of law and makes one a crook. Yes, allowing people to break American immigration laws is a crime. And on and on.
  5. I am sick of the lack of reasoning on voters parts when they don't seem to be able to recognize the obvious fact that unless the entire electoral system is changed, we the people are the ones who will suffer. (Actually neither candidate seems to see the need to end No Child Left Behind, teacher tenure and poor performance from teachers.) Give us back our schools Mr. would be President.
  6. I'm an old creeky male now, but I have lived through two Presidents dying in office. Franklin Delano Roosevelt when I was a pup (I used to listen to his fireside chats, well, my parents saw to it that I sat and listened) and John Fitzgerald Kennedy shot to death by at least one sniper. Neither of these events caused anything but grief and sorrow among the people of the United States. (I beg your pardon, one of them gave us a great President, the other a thief and scoundrel. No, figure it out yourself,) I do not want to witness a third such event. I will have to give McCain the edge in living out one term. I am afraid that O would not survive the sniper attack. We have a lunatic fringe (fringe? Hell, CNN says more than a third of the population will hate a black President. Viciously.) that still doesn't want blacks to have equality. But having written “A steady attack on the white race . . . served as the ballast that could prevent the ideas of personal and communal responsibility from tipping into an ocean of despair” is not a phrase to calm the lion's heart. Bill Ayers needed to choose his words more carefully. Unless he has a hidden agenda.
  7. The chances of my ever casting a vote for slobby looking governator Bill Richardson are found in between infinitesimal and none. The man is a carpet bagger. Have a look, have a listen, have a read. New Mexico should apologize to the other 49 for this fiasco. Sorry, America.
  8. OK. then it is McCain and Palin for me. Richardson gets my vote to be returned to Mexico. Revenge can be sweet.
  9. One more reason for my vote: I see no motivation (other than perhaps some jealousy) for the vicious and uncalled for attacks on Ms. Palin. You see, I can remember a neck tie salesman who didn't have much knowledge of how things worked in Washington suddenly having the Presidency thrust on him. And of his becoming one of the best Presidents America has ever had.

AMERICA LOSES

Before the eulogy, you might want to click on the header. It's something for everybody. My parents told me about Mr. Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by. Today I read his obituary. Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance, for Common Sense had served us all so well for so many generations. Common Sense Obituary Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a Band-Aid to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. Author unknown The above are, indeed, my feelings about the coming elections. Here in Albuquerque and New Mexico, we have men and women who want to be elected or re-elected when they have shown themselves to be, at best, just mediocre. When they have leaned over backwards not to prosecute criminals (it's easier to plea bargain -- you don't have near as much work) but they go after patriots with a vengeance. We allow illegal aliens to come and go as they please and even to have major gun fights on American soil to the point that Americans are afraid to leave their homes. We allow legal aliens to bleed our coffers demanding and getting food stamps, housing and medical care from the taxpayers. We think it's ok to hear constant haranging via our radios and TV sets denigrating other Americans without backing up the statements. We accept the interminable advertising that becomes mind numbing, when all we wanted was to be entertained by the TV sets we have paid for. We accept the shoddy merchandise, the poisonous food and the poor workmanship from other countries in the name of "trade". We think the utter disregard for our health as practiced by the gasoline and diesel fuel companies allowing volatile emissions, a cost we must all pay for the pleasure of driving our cars, when we know it doesn't need to be. We accept the pleasure of putting our great, great, great grandchildren into debt because greedy companies are in financial trouble and we must bail out the multi billionaires. We patiently sit waiting for any kind of medical help while the doctors in "carpet alley" fatten themselves over our misery and the almost incompetent assistance they offer. We listen to the interminable listings of recordings when phoning a company in the hope that, sooner or later, we might get a real person to give us some help. Only to have someone whose reason for being in the system is that English is their second (or third) language and no, they don't understand what we are saying any more they we understand what they are saying. We tolerate "political correctness" to the point of absurdity, but we are cowed by the noise the minorities make if we ignore it. Whether their view is correct or not. We are required to pay for TV stations we don't want. Even in languages we cannot read, write nor speak. We are being spied upon by faceless beings, who may or may not have morals we would approve of. Every telephone call, every web site we visit, every email or IM we use is open to these unidentied and unwelcome listeners. Our streets have cameras on them, telling the spies if we even dare to pass gas.

OBAMA, CLINTON, CATMOVES FOR PRES

Working piecemeal and in such a dangerous position should get warnings from OSHA. But they may be too busy filling out the mountains of paperwork (whatever happened to The Computer, which was going to eliminate paperwork?
I think this picture represents the jerry rigged attempts at government that Americans have had to put up with for the past 20 some years.
.
It seems a sad fact of higher education in our America, that far too many uni's and colleges are living in the dream world of Ivory Towers, where they and theirs are safe and protected from the harsh and ugly realities of the world and its ways. Promulgating these precepts, what can we expect other than confusion and candidates like Obama and Clinton?
There is NO Messiah going to run for President this time around. (I think the last one with common sense might have been Jack Kennedy, but that's open to argument.)
Dwight David Eisenhower warned us about watching out for the Military/Industrial complex and their machinations. Franklin D. Roosevelt told business to go to hell and do things his way. Harry Truman echoed his former boss. George Washington didn't want a Federal Banking system.
.
What have we got running today? A lady who breaks into tears when the going gets tough.
A guy who wants to be all things to all people.
Another guy who seems to indicate he wants to go along with the things the way they are now.
.
Balls.
How about somebody who says "to hell with the status quo. Let's try some things that are really, truly designered to help our own citizens. Let's not keep the entangling alliances that incompetents have developed over the past years. Let's not accept a role as the World's Police Force. Let's tell countries that we will spend Trillions for defense, but not one red cent for any tribute. Let's tell the world that America is going its own way and business will be subservient to the American populace or it will be closed. By force, if necessary. The age of screw the customer is over. Line up, get into the mood of becoming helpful to your own people or move to a foreign country where you can try to sell to us."
.
There.
I've just negated the top two Dems and the single top Republican. There's no real promise in any of them.
Maybe what's needed is a real, functioning cap on how much each candidate may spend in each state in their effort to get elected. It could be based on the population of the state. Maybe a buck per person of voting age. It should include all forms of ads. Newspaper, TV, radio, Web sites, etc., etc.
I hope you don't think either of the two main political parties would allow this to happen. If they did pass a bill such as this, I'd be willing to be bet they'd "forget" to put a penalty on violations.
.
I think I might nominate Lin (of The Creek site) for lady Pres. She's a lot wiser and one hell of a huge bunch more humorous than the ex pres's sobby female. I think I'd like Babzy to be her running mate, too. With those two in charge we'd be howling with laughter more than crying in our beers (as we do now).
.
Catmoves wants to be dictat, er, President, too. "Hang 'em high" is my slogan. At least it ought to scare the bejesas out of them.
.
Who's your nominee?
.
Don't forget to click on the header. And I did NOT write this article.

MORE RAIDS ON FREEDOMS

I don't particularly hold with cock fighting. I have to admit that I have never even been to a cock fight. My Middle West upbringing didn't include such activities. We prized our farm animals too much to watch them kill each other. If we wanted to gamble on something there were always horse races, poker and pinochle. And Bingo. But that was the Middle West. Now I live in the South West and things are different here. Different strokes for different folks. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. But I did learn to smoke in my late teens. It came in handy when I joined the Navy and our ship sailed into potentially dangerous waters. Sort of kept you looking calmer and braver than you really were. After I was discharged from the service and attended college I quit smoking. Cold turkey. After all, flower children and Beatniks didn't need to prove how brave they were. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. We went to non segregated schools and no one thought much about it. It was the way things were. And our idea of taking drugs was having a couple of No-Doze tablets so we could stay up all night. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. Although most of us learned how to use guns, we only heard of a shooting on rare occasions. And they always seemed to involve the police. Oh, there were murders once in a while, but they were rare. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. We learned about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, about Washington's problems with a poor Congress, Franklin's always being a step ahead of the British, what it meant to be an American and the debt we owed our forebears. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. We felt sorry for the people who could not live in free America, but we knew there were legal methods for expatriates to enter our country and we were happy for them. We knew, too, that our government would try to help the most destitute countries. We didn't complain about it. Hell, we even contributed to foreign aid. Things were good for the Great Generation. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. Homosexuals were a fact we didn't bother about. None of us knew any of them. They never came up in discussions because we didn't care. We didn't have to be pro or anti about it. They had their lives, we had ours. Teen age boys made jokes, but teeners always have. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. Drunk drivers existed then, but there were no really specifically enforced laws. If a drunk got belligerent with a cop, he/she got arrested. A cop's word to the judge that a driver was loaded was always good enough to get a fine levied against the person. They didn't tow cars away then, either. I like the new rules against drunk driving. Now if only New Mexico would only enforce them. But no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. Our children went to schools all over the city. If you wanted your kid transferred to another school, you talked to the principal about it. He took care of it. Some kids went to "tech" schools where they could learn a trade. Mostly, they were kids who had trouble with the standard curriculum. But they still had to study English and Mathematics and History. They graduated with an education that would last them throughout their lives and enable them to make a good living. More academically leaning students went to a "regular" high school. They still had "shop" courses available to them. But music, art, civics and so on were also available. It was a wonderful time for useful learning. And both kinds of schools had "gym" classes. Mandatory. Sure, there were kids who were not coordinated enough for many sports, but somehow the gym teachers always had some easier sports for them to play. Not segregation in a bad sense. Simply teaching to the child's ability to do the subject. And everybody passed gym. Without denigration or put-downs. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. We didn't worry too much about inflation. Four Presidents in a row saw to it that inflation was kept under control. We complained if the price of bread went from 19 cents a loaf to 20 cents. But it wasn't really necessary for Mom to work. Dad brought home enough to raise the family. There were plenty of ladies who worked, though. That extra income would buy a new car or re-furnish the home. And we paid cash for what we bought. Or we bought it on "time". We paid the bill every week, on pay day. "Repossession" was a dirty word. Sometimes we'd get in financial trouble, but a chat with our friendly banker would get us a small loan to help out. Which we paid back in installments. Businesses also helped us. We could ask for a "counter check", which most merchants had on hand, and write a check against our accounts by putting the name of our bank on it and signing it. The merchants trusted us and we trusted them. If you accidentally overdrew your account, the bank would call and let you know. You hurried to your bank and put some money in the account. There was no charge for this service. Credit cards were available, but usually they were only used for emergencies, then paid off as quickly as possible. Pride was a key word. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should with our lives. We wanted better things for our children than we had. It was an incentive to work harder, get a better job, do whatever it took, legally, to get it. We cared about our families and their welfare. And no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives. This rant was motivated by recent news articles informing New Mexicans that a bill banning cock fighting has been enacted and signed by our Governator. And a bill to ban cigarette smoking is heading to his desk. And a bill to legalize marijuana will be signed if it reaches his desk. And he's going out of town to raise money to become our President, while the state's contractor for behavioral health for our kids says he needs at least $2.3 million to continue to function. While five schools have been burglarized and nine portable classrooms have been broken into. Yes, "portable". Apparently we don't have enough money to build suitable schoolrooms. But the Governator feels we can give a $94 million dollar income tax credit to businesses and individuals. There's another in the hook in that bill: Next year, another $10 million tax cut in income taxes for the average user. Think of that. And this man wants to be President. Just imagine how much more we can be in debt with him at the helm. Tax cuts for the nation. Wow. More walking around money. Whoopie. I kind of liked it when no one from the government told us, seriously, what we should do with our lives.

GW Dubya

I read recently that President Bush once said he wanted to be a war President. Seems he really got his wish. Visions of History swam through his head and I don't believe he honestly meant the kind of war we are embroiled in now. Maybe he saw himself as that other GW, or maybe Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt or perhaps Harry Truman. My personal belief is that he will not like the view History will take of him. Incompetence, waste, political cronyism, alienation are not good words to apply to any administration. Please note I am not talking about his bunged on accent (I lived in Aussie for some years), mispronunciations and lack of real leadership. Some day Clio will point out that a vanishing middle class, a buck and a quarter (or whatever) extra for the struggling lower income people and the attack on our Constitution were gross errors of judgement and led to the decline of America's power and prestige.
